Nash Farm Round-Up Features Fun Fall Activities, Contests
By Scott Price
Staff Writer
The annual Nash Farm Fall Round-Up will give people a chance to get into the fall spirit.
The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the historic Nash Farm, 626 Ball St. in Grapevine. Additional parking will be available at Cannon Elementary School, across College Street.
The activities will include stick pony barrel racing, stick pony "buckin’ broncs," hayrides, a petting zoo, pony rides, blacksmith demonstrations, arts and crafts, historic plowing demonstrations, and hot dogs and hamburgers for sale by the Grapevine AMBUCS, a business club.
Those who have a knack for cooking are asked to create some tasty dishes using pumpkins. These include two categories: pumpkin pies and "somethin’ pumpkin,’ " and two age groups: 13 and younger and 14 and older.
Entries for the pumpkin cooking contest will be accepted from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on the day of the event. People are asked to register before the day of the event. Recipes must also be submitted, but they do not have to be original. Recipes should be typed or neatly handwritten. In addition, the Round-Up will feature a scarecrow contest, and assembled scarecrows will be accepted from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 11 in three categories: individual, group or family, and organization or club. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in each category of the pumpkin cooking and scarecrow contests. Call 817-410-3585 for details.
To register for either contest, see www.NashFarm.org. Entry forms can be downloaded there and are also available at the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau at One Liberty Park Plaza, across from City Hall.
