2009 Legacy of Women Nominees Named
The 2009 Legacy of Women Awards have named this year’s finalists, and it looks like out of 16 finalists, only two names are from Northeast Tarrant County this year.
In the Health and Human Services category, our own Ramona Osburn, director of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, Springwood, was nominated along with Joyce Mauk, president and CEO of the Child Study Center and Marti VanRavenswaay, Tarrant County commissioner.
In the category of Volunteerism, local sweetheart Karen Parsinen was nominated for her work with Northeast Leadership Forum, Arts League, Mid-Cities SOS and is a finalist along with Louise Appleman, who was nominated for her work with Tarrant County College District, Streams and Valleys and Visiting Nurses, in addition to Janie Rector, who was nominated for her work with Junior League of Fort Worth and the Azle Memorial Library.
Other categories and nominees for this year, include:
Arts
Margo Dean, owner of Margo Dean School of Dance;
Deborah Ferguson, morning news anchor for NBC 5;
Carmen Garcia, artistic director of Ballet Folklorico de Fort Worth.
Education
Linda Curry, professor at Texas Christian University;
Nina Jackson, director of adolescent pregnancy services of Fort Worth ISD;
Susan Stevens Crummel, author of children’s books and a former public school teacher.
Business
Christine Cook, president of Sleep Experts;
Harriet Harral, executive director of Leadership Fort Worth;
Diane Stow, associate publisher of Fort Worth, Texas magazine.
This year’s luncheon, where the winners will be announced from the podium, should be especially interesting, as it is scheduled at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Quite the coup by this year’s luncheon chairwoman Elizabeth Ray.
This event sells out quickly, so don’t sit back and think you can wait too long to purchase your $100 ticket.
Pick up the phone and call Michelle Karr at 817-535-6462, ext. 101 or e-mail her at mkarr@safehaventc.org. Otherwise you will be working on your "I was out of town and couldn’t attend" excuse, when your friends ask you why you weren’t there!
