Online Exclusive

Staff Report

A late night fire destroyed part of a mansion at 525 W. Highland St. in Southlake last week. Investigators have not identified an ignition source for the fire but estimate damages at $500,000, said Fire Marshal David Barnes.

The family was home when the fire started about 1:30 a.m. Saturday but managed to escape without injury, Barnes said.

The fire started in the new part of the house that’s still under construction. The homeowner is adding a new gymnasium and other rooms. Most of the damage was contained there but the rest of the house received smoke damage, Barnes said.
